History

Launched in the early 2360s under the command of Captain Raymond Kelso, Athena served as a long-range explorer, diplomatic cruiser and surveillance vessel.

After the Battle of Wolf 359, Kelso accepted a flag position as CO of Starbase 96, recommending his XO Nisha Powell to succeed him as Captain of the Athena.

At the start of the Dominion War, Athena led a hastily assembled task force in defense of the Denali Sector. Task Force 96 remained together throughout the war, specializing in Advanced Reconnaissance and Special Operations missions.
