Galaxy-X dreadnought variant

After First Contact with the Borg, Starfleet Command commissioned several studies for improved ships and tactical systems to prepare for any future conflict. One such project included exploring upgrades to the existing Galaxy class starship, improving its firepower and combat survivability. This would ultimately lead to a dreadnought variant of the legendary explorer. The GX project was classified at the highest levels, with the design team and all their research located at Blue Base, a Starfleet R&D black site.

The loss of the USS Odyssey at the hands of Dominion forces caused SFC to release several of the spare unfinished Galaxy hulls from storage and send them to various shipyards to be completed. One hull went to Blue Base to receive the GX upgrades, and Starfleet chose to name her Missouri in honor of a WWII-era battleship with a distinguished career.

Under the direct supervision of Vadm. Gracie Hammond, “Mighty Mo” was brought up to combat readiness, a process that took considerably longer considering the extent of the GX modifications.

Hammond and her team rushed the ship into service, taking her out for an abbreviated shakedown at the beginning of the Dominion War. After logging a distress call, the Missouri disappeared.

Unbeknownst to Starfleet, the ship had been transported to a distant galaxy, leaving the admiral and her crew faced with a difficult dilemma: keep their ship out of the wrong hands long enough to either find a way back to the Milky Way, or a safe harbor where they could found a new colony.
